Composer’s Association of Macedonia commission Robert Sazdov
The Composer’s Association of Macedonia has commissioned Robert Sazdov to compose a piece for Tapan (Macedonian traditional drum) and multi-channel tape. The piece will be performed by acclaimed Macedonian percussionist Ratko Dautovski (Dragan Dautovski Quartet, Dazhbog, Djivan Gasparian) at the Days of Macedonian Music festival 2013.

From Autonomous to Performative Timbral Spatialisation
Timbral spatialisation is one such process that requires the independent control of potentially thousands of parameters (Torchia, et al., 2003). Current research on controlling timbral spatialisation has focused either on automated generative systems, or suggested that to design trajectories in software is to write every movement line by line (Normandeau, 2009). This research approaches this problem using multidimensional lookup tables for timbral spatialisation, enabling the performative control of large numbers of parameter sets associated with software.
Robert Sazdov receives a commission from Fraunhofer Institute
Robert Sazdov has been commissioned by the Fraunfoher Institute (IIS) to compose a three-dimensional multi-channel composition. He has been invited to utilized the ‘Mozart’ room at Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, Erlangen to realize a 22.2 channel work. He will also be working on perceptual experiment designs that will be used for experiments ultimately contributing to the proposed ‘H’ audio standard.

Originally part of the 60×60 2004 International Mix, the composition has been selected for the 60×60 2012 Presenters Mix. The premier of the mix is part of the ‘Arts Now Series’ and will take place at the Kennedy-McIlwee Studio Theatre, Thompson Theatre, North Carolina State University, 7pm – Tuesday, September 18.

The exhibition examines the window as a liminal surface; both the surface of the projection screen and the space it enframes. The videos offer a fractured surface where the ‘sutures’ between multiple temporalities are left visible. The works explore a visuality where simultaneity rather than sequentiality is foregrounded – multiple fragments of the past anamnetically inscribed into the present.
John Galvin – at once a surface and a frame
PhD student, John Galvin, has a solo exhibition at the Steam Box, part of the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art. The show opens Thursday, September 13, at 6pm. The gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday 12-5.
‘Dreams of the Jailed Dancer’ (2011) – Robert Sazdov
The composition will receive its premier performance at the International Computer Music Conference 2012, held in Ljubljana – Slovenia. The concert will take place on Friday the 14th of September at Kino Šiška.
Workshop: Ailís Ni Ríain (composer)
Wednesday September 12th, 2012. Born in Cork, the international prize-winning classical composer and published playwright Ailís Ní Ríain aims to produce work which challenges, provokes and engages. She is particularly interested in cross-discipline collaboration, new writing for performance, concert music,sound installation, opera, music-theatre and presenting contemporary music in diverse spaces including the public realm.
