Second-screening, audio-visual performance, audience-engagement, multi-media production, natural-language-processing, sentiment analysis
Dr. Léon McCarthy is a practicing multi-media artist, performer, educator and researcher. His research is practice-based, with output in the form of commissions, performances and publications. Currently, he is investigating how second-screening shapes the aesthetic of multi-media performance, with a particular focus on how it supports new forms of performer-audience collaboration. To bring second-screening into his own performances, he is creating pop-up social-networks, tailoring the second-screen interface and then mining audience comments so that sentiment can be used to auto-aggregate complimentary web-based audio-visuals. Beyond the field of multi-media performance, he is using second-screening and social-network technology in an eHealth context and so is open to collaborating on research in other areas.
